U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) was created in 1953 as an independent agency of the federal government to aid, counsel, assist and protect the interests of small business concerns, to preserve free competitive enterprise and to maintain and strengthen the overall economy of our nation.

They offer businesses various loans, such as the 7(a) Loan Program. This is SBA’s primary program for helping start-up and existing small businesses, with financing guaranteed for a variety of general business purposes.

Kennebec Valley Council of Governments (KVCOG)
KVCOG provides financing assistance for start-ups, expansions and modernizations throughout the tri-county area. Funding for the agency’s lending, grant and technical assistance programs are secured through a mix of state and federal loan and grant programs and strategic partnerships. In addition to our direct loan programs, KVCOG also provides assistance to businesses in accessing other local and state sources of financing. In order to be eligible for the business loan program, the business must be located in Kennebec, Somerset, or western Waldo County.
